Who builds this.
Yamsap is made by the Toronto Audio Company, a tiny audio engineering company based in Toronto, Canada. Yamsap is the only thing we make.
Why it exists.
People who buy music end up with a collection that no software is really built for. Streaming apps treat your own files as an inconvenience. Media servers treat music as the quiet tab next to the films. The serious options were written for a listening room with one chair in it, or cost more per year than the records do.
Yamsap is the answer to a narrower question. If the music you love is already on a disk in your house, what should the software around it feel like? It should read like a record collection rather than a file browser, and it should follow you from room to room. Losing the internet for a week should not be the thing that stops it.
What it has been built against.
Toronto Audio Company’s CEO, Marston, has run yamsap as the only music system at home for a long time now, which is a slower way to build software and a much better way to find out what is wrong with it. The collection it runs against is the one you can see in every screenshot on this site.

Every picture on this site is a capture of that server actually running, taken automatically from the real application rather than drawn in a design tool. Nothing on these pages is a mockup of something that does not exist yet.

Where it is going.
The work in front of us is packaging. Builds that install in a minute rather than an evening, on the platforms people actually keep a server on. After that the list gets longer, and most of what is on it comes from what people ask for.
What changes, and when, goes out to the waitlist as it happens. If you want to shape any of it, that is where we ask questions, and [email protected] reaches a person.
